Sure, a piece of sheet metal and things much thicker can rip after the 
ablative stage but before free fall as things rip apart in dense 
atmosphere!

Even irons can get sharp shrapnel.

But the warning does sound a bit lame.  Guess the "radioactive wait for 
the men in black" excuse doesn't work any more.

I was reading a short article on the UARS where it was mentioned there
could be sharp edges on the debris.  Some kind of a safety warning I
guess.   Really?  Sharp edges, even after ablation?
