Before an injury it realy helps to be in good physical shape. It also helps to see a good kiropractor before injury. A couple hundred bucks a year to a kiropractor can keep your back in line and prevent the lifting injuries from happening in the first place. You dont have to go to a gym and do extensive workouts either to prevent injury. Basic streatching exercizes like touching your toes in the tub while taking a bath . And gymnastic streaching help. Have carple tunnel? Befor trying surgury try swinging a mop around a floor or finding if you have a pinched nerve in your back. Im 52 years old can still run a marathon and and set a dislocated shoulder by myself ot in the wilds. Being flexible by stretching is not physically hard to do but much more important than heavy workouts or lifting exercizes. Have a great day and work on touching your toes no matter how fat you are!
