Hi Doug,
I, too, ENJOY Steve's ads - er, posts.
They are hysterical in their irony, duplicity and a myriad of
other elements I won't go into, as identifying said elements may
seem to be critical. HOWEVER, far funnier than his posts are the
reactions to his posts. 10 or 20 list members begin bouncing off the
walls, moaning and groaning as though in a medieval dungeon of
torture!
There are many other posts I skip, based on the topic in the
subject box - or at least after having read the first one or two posts on
a given subject, but there is no way - and I mean NO WAY I would
miss a post from Chicago Steve, much less any of the avalanche of
detractors' commentaries following his utterances. (He seems
devilishly clever in inventing new and improved irony.... "Look
at THIS one I just got!" [one week before offering it for sale - at
25% of what he paid] or, "This is it! I am "going out of business -
my wife says it's her or the meteorites...." etc, etc. Makes the local
used car dealer ads look like Walter Cronkite. How, I ask, can one
not LOVE such inanity? But, as I said - the reactions are even
MORE entertaining.
These never ending post represent some of the most entertaining
moments found on the list since the passing of Proud Tom! (BTW, that
fellow promised to reveal himself to me two Tucson Shows ago..... where
art though, Proud Tom? Howsabout a little off list revelation???)
Anyway, here's to Steve - and here's an even bigger salute
to all the "Nay Sayers!" May they all, like the Nakhla Dog, live long
and prosper.
Happy Holidays to all, Michael
PS: Martin, please keep those statistics coming - I have often wondered,
myself, about such things (seriously). Perhaps you could do one on the #
of Chicago Steve posts vs number of outraged responses to said posts?
You could then provide the both the mean and median responses as well
as the modal # of responses. I think you have the raw data already gathered
on Steve's posts, now, all you need is to check out the responses....
wouldja, please, wouldja?
