Hi everyone -
It's good to be back at least briefly to some place on
the net where sanity still prevails - Is the dog still
dead yet?
I will be heading out to two powwows at the end of
next week, and I am in need of at least one small iron
for fire making. That's easy enough, but here's the
catch: I can't pay cash for it. It isn't that I don't
have the cash, it's just that cash can not be used to
acquire irons for ritual fire-making. It has to be
trade, and what I usually offer in trade are
personally signed copies of "Man and Impact in the
Americas" ($34.95).
Anyone interested?
More generally, I'd like to open this topic for
discussion on the list while I can spend some time
here. What type of irons would be good for
fire-starting? Any ideas? Small sized ones should be
adequate (only large enough to hold between your left
thumb and forefinger, along with some dried plant
strands or a piece of char-cloth.) From what I've
seen, I think that slices should also be acceptable -
but they have to be large enough to hold, and thick
enough to stand glacing blow-scraping.
I also don't know how this works out in terms of
Canadian meteorite possession laws - perhpas a
loophole may exist here.
Without doubt, sky irons for non-sacred fire making
might be sold for cash at powwow, but I have not
really thought about this too much. Does anyone here
have any experience with this market?
all the best, and happy hunting,
Ed
