Hi Jonathan,
I live in upstate NY, in early spring I spent a week in LA for
business. At the time I had a kenwood TS-2000X in the shack.
I wanted to operate the shack form the hotel in the evenings to get on
160 and chat with the boys back home.
I ended up using Ham Radio deluxe for rig control and Skype for audio.
The only reason I went with HRD and the PC platform was for the rig
control. I couldn't find a better app on the mac for that. Skype did
the right thing, you can setup the client to auto answer from a
particular party.
I then opened up RDP port on my router and used DNYDNS.org.
Now here is the cool part. From the hotel room in LA, I sat in the
room with my PowerBook G4 on the wireless network and my USB headset.
I then used Microsoft Remote Desktop connection and opened a
connection back home to the PC. Once in, I had full control of the
2000. Then, started skype, connected to my 2nd account and boom! I was
ready to go! It worked so well that no one ever knew I was 3K miles
away. I got excellent audio reports.
BTW, if you choose to go the mac route for remote connection I
recommend:

I like it much better than the other VNC clients, this one is
considerably faster.
73 and good luck!
