[DogParkList] FW: CQ Zone 5

Gustavo (and fellow MLDXers):

The difference might be whether a question mark ("?") appears
in the CQ zone lookup. For example, if I start with an empty log
and add "KK4GBG" it will find the zone as "5". Now I log it. So
far, so good.

Now I look up something like "KK4GB" which does not have a
QRZ entry. The CQ field is filled with "?5" instead of "5" since
MLDX is guessing for you. Since it can't be sure, it alerts you
to the POSSIBILITY that you might be interested in this call.

If I look up "NE1RD" (I am also in zone 5), I get no warning
because the lookup fills the CQ field with "5" (it knows for sure!)
and not "?5". That appears to be the difference.

So, if you are using the QRZ ROM or lookup mechanism and
the call does not resolve to something with a concrete zone
(it guesses) then you may get an announcement you don't
expect. But, if the lookup finds a valid entry from the database
and the CQ zone field is filled without the question mark and
the guess, it knows not to alert you to a zone you've already
logged.

That appears to be what is going on. Sorry it took so long to
get to this explanation. Let us know if you confirm this
behavior in your environment.

73!
