[DogParkList] Yaesu FT-847 Question

Hi Randel,

If it's the one that has the Apple Serial ports (the round ones), I
know for sure it doesn't recognize the input levels coming from the
radio [interface]. Not sure about other Keyspan models.

I made my own interface for my ICOM Pro-III, and had the same
problems with the Keyspan that I had experienced with a Yaesu HT
adapter. According to my testing, it seems to be for the same
reasons. These are both interfaces that get power from DTR, but don't
actually provide a negative voltage for the input data signal. The
Keyspan needs that. The majority of PC serial ports will recognize
TTL levels for input, so it's easy to make an inexpensive interface
that only provide positive going data levels. On the input line, a
TTL "zero" level will be recognized on most interfaces, but the
Keyspan requires it to go negative (see RS-232 specs). Technically
(if I remember correctly) the spec for a valid data level allows for
positive levels (at least to a TTL zero max).

Anyway, I purchased an IOGear serial adapter and it works fine (has
OS-X driver included). It's pretty cheap, too ($19.95, I believe).
Although I haven't tried with the Yaesu HT interface, I assume it
will work fine with that also.

Hope this helps.
