A true 3D map shows points on the same bearing along the same circle - 
and it has the advantage of not being spatially distorted.

But the farther away you go from your location the more distorted and 
unreadable the map becomes.

But is it a desirable thing to do ?

Azimuthal Equidistant maps are easy to create - but the question 
remains - wouldn't you rather have a true 3D map like these ?
