How about a true 3D globe with grey line and arc between QSO and 
location ?

Great circle is useful but dreadfully distorted and hard to read. It 
allows the line between 2 locations to be straight and shows the 
azimuth but the length of the line loses it's meaning due to the 
distortion of the projection.
