A discussion and Q&A of post-pandemic anxiety and socialization in our children led by CBI congregant Michelle Farber Daniel. This is geared toward anyone connected with pre-school to college-aged children.

Michelle Farber Daniel, Psy.D., is a clinical psychologist. She graduated from the Graduate School of Applied and Professional Psychology (GSAPP) at Rutgers University and completed her internship at University Hospital, Newark, in the Child and Adolescent Outpatient Department. She maintains a private practice in Millburn, NJ, where she specializes in working with children, adolescents, and their families. She is also a clinical supervisor to graduate students at GSAPP.

CBI Chanting Circle

The Art of the Nigun

This special edition of the chanting circle is going wordless!  What is a nigun if not a chant without words?  Like chant, the nigun is powerful centuries-old way of accessing a spiritual sensibility not otherwise readily available to us.  While our niguns will be contemporary, what they bring out is timeless!

English is an Indo-European language and Hebrew is a Northwest Semitic language. Strictly speaking, they could not be more different. But as ‘no man is an island,’ so too no language is an island. As archeologists in recent years have found, in antiquity there was much more commerce and trade between the Middle East and other lands than was once imagined. And as goods migrate, often enough the words describing them migrate as well. Presented by Len Hausman, you are invited to discover English words whose origins, via the Romance languages, may well lie the languages of the Levant – including Hebrew!

CBI Alliance for Sustainability

In response to the increasing challenges facing the environment, it’s time for CBI to do its part to preserve and protect the natural world. We’ll be focusing on environmental sustainability through a Jewish lens, exploring how essential Jewish teachings can inform our pursuit of a healthy and just world. We hope to involve all members of the CBI community from preschoolers to seniors. We’ll be evaluating what we can do as a community and as individuals to integrate a commitment to sustainability into our lives, in order to be true partners in the ongoing work of Tikkun Olam. We invite you to be part of it!

Claribel and Etta Cone amassed a remarkable collection of masterpiece paintings and sculpture from the 19th and 20th Centuries that they bequeathed to the Baltimore Museum of Art. This talk requires two parts to tell the story of great art in the context of the fascinating social history of these two Jewish sisters. The breadth of their collection includes works by Matisse, Picasso, Cézanne, Gauguin, Pissarro, Renoir, Van Gogh, Courbet, and Delacroix, among others. The sisters also amassed an amazing array of textiles, jewelry, furniture and other decorative arts, as well as African art, Japanese prints, and antique ivories and bronzes. Claribel and Etta Cone, in order to enrich their lives, enriched the lives of us all with their legacy.
