SAVE THE DATE!

Meet the Rabbi

January 10-12 – Rabbi Ari Isenberg

The Rabbinic Search Committee has made great progress in our search for
CBI’s next spiritual leader and is pleased to announce the upcoming visit of
Rabbi Ari Isenberg, currently with Temple Israel Center in White Plains, NY.
Rabbi Isenberg will spend Shabbat at CBI where the congregation will have
the opportunity to listen to the candidate deliver sermons, lead us in
prayer, and teach. There will be a Q&A session on Sunday morning.

Check your email for additional information about Rabbi Isenberg as well as
the complete schedule for his visit.

For families, there will be Shabbat Services on Saturday morning for
children so parents can attend services in Sanctuary.

This Sunday, December 29 // 9:00 – 10:30 a.m.

EDGE (Eclectic Discussion Group Event) is CBI’s informal discussion group.
These sessions draw upon the expertise, experience, and interests of
congregants to present programs on a variety of topics. Two topics will be
presented, with time for Q&A.

Late in Life Decision Making

Presented by Marvin Fish

This attorney-led discussion about topics of concern to all of us will
address wills, trusts, gifts, life insurance, and powers of attorney. Also
included will be perspectives on end-of-life considerations related to
living wills, POLST (Physician Orders for Life Sustaining Treatment),
medical proxy, autonomy, substituted judgments, and the new statute called
Aid in Dying.

Making Math Fun

Presented by Mark Richman

Hear how this experienced math teacher makes math interesting, meaningful,
and, especially, fun by using humor, dance, and song. When math becomes
understandable and enjoyable, even pupils with “math anxiety” can’t wait to
learn. See how these techniques can be applied to teaching factoring,
multiplying binomials, and solving quadratic equations.

Refreshments will be served.

CBI Chanting Circle

Sephardic and Mizrachi Melody Jam

Join us in the Chapel Sunday January 12th at 5PM

for our inspirational Hebrew chant and song circle with musical
accompaniment.

This special edition of the chanting circle is going south of the border –
the Ashkenazi border, that is! We will be learning centuries-old melodies
from Spain, Portugal and the Sephardic Diaspora along with melodies from
Iraq, Persia, Yemen, and India. Some are done in a traditional
call-and-response style, while others will be done as a nigun, or put to
words you may know.

The intention of chanting is to awaken the divine in our hearts. It can
soothe the mind and at the very least is simply fun to do! No prior
knowledge of Hebrew or singing ability necessary
 only a willingness to
join in spiritual community.
