Three Weeks to Go!

CBI IS HOSTING FAMILIES FROM THE

INTERFAITH HOSPITALITY NETWORK (IHN)

 

Now is your chance to support this important, congregation-wide social
action initiative!

 

Friends:

 

One of the most remarkable and rewarding areas of our congregation involves
our efforts at "Tikun Olam" - fixing the world.  We believe that we are
partners with God in helping people in need - and by doing so we repair the
Divine plan as well.

 

We believe that when we have the opportunity to be of service to the
community it is our obligation to do so.  To that end, CBI has undertaken to
house homeless Essex County families for one week.  I can tell you from
involvement that participating in this program can be a life-changing
experience.

 

Yet, as much as it helps us -- by showing these families that there are
those who care - we have the opportunity to change their lives as well.
Opportunities like this do not happen every day -- and it is one of the
sacred tasks of our congregation to provide these opportunities for our
community.

 

Come, help us fix the world and change lives.  Volunteer for the IHN

What You Need to Know!

"What is IHN?"

Interfaith Hospitality Network (IHN) coordinates immediate temporary housing
in religious congregations for displaced families while they are
transitioning to permanent homes. IHN also provides comprehensive support
like job skills training, after school care for children and other services
aimed at keeping families together.and putting them on the road to self
sufficiency and a home of their own.

 

"What Does it Mean to be a Host Congregation?"

As one of 25 host congregations in Essex County, CBI will provide shelter
for up to 5 families or 14 people for one week. The families will be housed
in the BBRS wing from Sunday, November 2nd through Sunday, November 9th. CBI
will furnish sleeping quarters, a dining room and lounge area where CBI
volunteers will provide meals and offer hospitality. The families will be
with us from 5:30 p.m. - 7:00 a.m. on weekdays and all day Saturday and
Sunday.

"How Can My Family and I Help?"

SIGN UP TODAY TO BE AN IHN at CBI VOLUNTEER!

For this to be truly a congregation-wide program and a service to the
community, we need the participation of as many CBI members - of all ages -
as possible. Let's join together to help homeless parents and children
regain their housing, their independence, and their dignity. There are so
many ways to help and participate!

Click on the "Join this Community" link and fill out the request form. Once
your request is received and approved by our website coordinator you will
receive instructions on how to sign in and sign up. Pick the day, time and
type of volunteer work that best suits you and your family. Choose from a
variety of volunteer opportunities: Convert classrooms into bedrooms, plan
and host recreational activities, prepare and serve meals for our guests,
and sleep over at night to tend to any unexpected needs.
