[CBI] Welcome Our New Director of Congregational Learning

Dear Congregation B'nai Israel Community,

 

As we all settle down for Passover this evening, we are thrilled to share
exciting news with you!  Rabbi Helene Kornsgold has accepted our offer to
serve as the Director of Congregational Learning at Congregation B'nai
Israel beginning August 1, 2014, with direct responsibility for the Blanche
Bayer Religious School (BBRS).

 

Rabbi Kornsgold is currently the Religious School Director at Temple Ramat
Zion in Northridge, CA, and previously served as School Rabbi at The
Pressman Academy in Los Angeles.  She received her rabbinic ordination from
The Jewish Theological Seminary, where she also received a Master of Arts in
Jewish Education.  She is a graduate of Barnard College of Columbia
University.  In addition to various rabbinic intern positions in New York,
California, and Ohio, Rabbi Kornsgold has served at Jewish camps for many
summers as well as with KOACH, Conservative Judaism's outreach to
college-age students.

 

As Director of Congregational Learning, Rabbi Kornsgold will have curricular
and administrative responsibility for BBRS as well as take a leadership role
in Teen Learning, Adult Learning, Shabbat and Holiday Religious Programming
for Children and Families, Family Enrichment and Inclusion.

 

Rabbi Kornsgold brings to CBI passionate and creative approaches to
congregational learning.  Her approach is anchored in Gemilut Chassadim,
performing acts of kindness, Torah Lishma, lifelong learning, and Family
Education.  Her vision will foster and bridge CBI's educational successes
across all ages, helping to bring lifelong connection of congregants to
Judaism, Israel, our synagogue and each other. We know that Rabbi Kornsgold
is eager to meet all of you - especially the children of CBI.  Please look
for more information in the months ahead.

 

We owe a tremendous debt of gratitude to the search committee: Heather
Adelman, Lisa Biller, Brett Cohen, Dan Dovdavany, Beth Giladi, Debra Nevas,
Sue Scheiner, Brad Schenerman, Josh Schor and Paula Touger.  We are so
thankful for the able leadership of Janice Colmar, who will continue to lead
BBRS as we transition to Rabbi Kornsgold.

 

Our religious school and shul community is in a place of great strength.  We
look forward to continued intellectual and spiritual growth in our pursuit
of lifelong learning and engagement.
