"Argo" Falsifies History

I think it's time to take the sheen off the Oscar for "Argo" as "Best Picture."  I personally refer to the film as "Oh, Argh!"  That is my expression of disgust for Ben Affleck and gang, for their falisification of history, and for their not-so-subtle propaganda to line up with the reckless forces that want to wage war on Iran in the present.  All this is a deep disservice to truth, and a danger to humanity.


It was all over the news on February 22 that former President Jimmy Carter -- after courteously wishing the filmmakers well -- nevertheless went on to note that 90% of the rescue operation was conceived and carried out by the Canadian government, and that Ben Affleck's CIA character was actually in Tehran for only a day and a half.  I think America has enough real heroes without making one up in Hollywood, and seriously misleading the American public.



On March 5, the Christian Science Monitor published an in-depth statement from the former president of Iran, who rather desperately points out that 76% of the Iranian people elected him to office because he (and many other officials) favored releasing all of the 1979 American hostages very early on.  It was only a militant minority that had an agenda -- NOT "all those crazy Iranians" -- as Affleck's film untruthfully conveys.



As to that militant minority, a number of them were the survivors and orphans of a 1953 coup that violently overturned the first democratically elected leader in the Middle East, Dr. Mohammed Mosaddeq.  Dr. Mosaddeq had the termerity to act upon the humanitarian idea that Iran's oil profits should go to the Iranian people instead of to American and British corporations.  (This dynamic in current times has been the same regarding Hugo Chavez, now deceased -- beloved in oil-rich Venezuela but politically despised in America.  But I digress.)



Back in 1950's Iran, the grandson of President Teddy Roosevelt, "Kim" Roosevelt in an official capacity with the CIA, eventually openly bragged about provoking and arranging that overthrow of the Iranian democracy, and helping to install Mohammed Pahlavi instead.  Known as the Shah of Iran, Pahlavi was a brutal tyrant for decades, and his victims and their families vowed someday to punish Americans for all the grief and injustice.



The time came in 1979 when the U.S. accepted the Shah into America for medical treatment -- and perhaps also to enable him to visit his fortune in American banks that had been stolen or otherwise redirected away from Iranian citizens.  To get revenge, and perhaps also to force their money to be restored, the infamous "52 hostages" ordeal unfolded in Iran.



Enter my long-time friend Barbara Honegger, a young Stanford graduate who was drafted into the Reagan White House as a policy adviser on women's issues. She very visibly resigned from the Reagan-Bush administration in 1983 "as a matter of conscience" on that front, but also because she was in position to have learned about the plot to defeat Jimmy Carter's re-election by sabotaging his work to get the hostages freed. 



Barbara's 1989 book, "October Surprise" -- and books by other authors that followed -- detail the outright treasonous and heartless deals the Reagan-Bush team made with Ayatollah Khomeini's agents, to provide arms and ammo to our officially declared enemy, and to make Carter look like a failure.  Thus the hostages remained considerably longer in pain and deprivation until released -- "coincidentally" -- minutes after Reagan was inaugurated.



Pretty ugly, huh?  Barbara will soon be uploading a YouTube video of her 1992 National Press Club event that proves she did all in her power to provide the facts to the congressional investigative committee when it eventually convened.  But her voluminous documentation was omitted from the official report, and Reagan-Bush were declared innocent.



Well, maybe we should thank "Argo" for stirring all this up.  It's about time this nation comes to terms with many enormous political deceptions that we have long been subjected to.
