Ah, I remember now, there is a Debian (not sure about Fedora, must try
that) packaging misfeature that I thought had been fixed. You cannot
have both gdc and ldc installed at the same time and have both work –
it's to do with module lookup and the fact that the gdc D version and
ldc D version are different.

So if you need gdc to work you must not have ldc installed. Actually I
think ldc works all the time even if gdc is installed.
