[Scons-dev] CI and testing in general

An obvious outcome from the recent situation regarding the D tooling on
SCons is that to properly test the D tool we need an absolutely huge
number of test platforms. The most obvious variables are:

Operating system
Processor
C compiler
C++ compiler
Fortran compiler
D compiler

Each of these variables has many values: there are 4 distinct D
compilers in each of two states (present/not present) leading to a large
number of variants for just that variable. The situation obtains for the
other variables.

The only up side is that this not only covers the D needs also the C, C
++ and Fortran ones.

Has anyone got an inkling as to how to get through this nightmare?
