I have a favor to ask of those who are interested. I have just
finished a lengthy and comprehensive book on ordinary chondrites for
Cambridge University Press. It is scheduled to be published at the end
of the year, but the date is likely to slip by a few months.
I need a photo of an ordinary chondrite for the cover. It must not
have been previously published, and if I use it, the copyright will be
transferred to Cambridge University Press. I offer no compensation in
return. But there will be bragging rights, and, of course, proper
acknowledgement in the book.
What I want ideally is an LL3 whole rock with a cut face showing lots
of chondrules, tilted at an angle so the fusion crust is visible. The
meteorite can be a fall or find as long as it is in good shape. But
it must be an officially approved specimen, listed in the Meteoritical
Bulletin Database. If any of you folks are willing, please send your
images directly to me at: aerubin at ucla.edu
When you send the photos, please send as high a resolution as
possible. Also, please formally give me permission to use the photo
in your submission email.
Thanks to all of you. I look forward to your submissions.
Alan
