Hi, Meteorite-List, Alfredo, and Michael,Here's a photo I took of this specimen at the show.I see that the case label says "among the largest pieces of the moon on earth", so it doesn't exactly specifically state that this is THE largest.I was curious, that its labels here simply call it "The Moon", with no other meteorite name attached. I presume that many among you know--does this meteorite have another, "approved" name, or is its formal approved name, really and simply, "The Moon"?Pete ModreskiSent from my Verizon, Samsung Galaxy smartphone

Last Weekend at the Tucson Gem and Mineral Show there was a 56.75 Kg(!) lunar on exhibit which belongs to the Maine Mineral and Gem Museum, in Bethel, Maine. They claim it is the largest mass of Moon rock currently known on this planet. Beautiful piece, under constant armed police guard during the 4 days of the show.On Fri, 21 Feb 2025 at 08:56, Michael Gilmer via Meteorite-list <meteorite-list at meteoritecentral.com> wrote:Hi Listees,I was thinking about lunars today and how the market around them has changed since the days just before the NWA gold rush. Even well into the NWA period, new lunar recoveries were usually the big topic of conversation. Remember NWA 482? Or the feeding frenzy around NWA 5000?NWA 5000 was the largest lunar mass until that big Kalahari find came to light, but we've seen dozens(?) of sizeable lunar recoveries in recent years and it seems like people have gotten numb to them somewhat. It seems like it's not that big of a deal anymore if a football-sized moon rock is recovered. So, what is officially the biggest lunar mass now? I've lost track.
