Autumn leaves were not the only thing falling the night of November 9, 1923
when the original 'Meteorite Man' Harvey Nininger paused in front of the
home of fellow teacher E.L.Craik after they attended an event on the campus
of McPherson College.
"Suddenly a blazing stream of fire píerced the sky, lighting the landscape
as though Nature had pressed a giant electric switch." (from *'Find a
Falling Star'*)
Harvey bent down and drew a line on the sidewalk to preserve the direction
of flight. Then he told his friend that he was going to find that
meteorite.
"Do something that needs doing" was Nininger's *leitmotif*. Searching for
falling stars was yet to become a serious endeavor.

Earth's last six trips around a yellow dwarf star have been uneventful on a
cosmic level. I have mostly enjoyed the ride. As I approach my 72nd season
what's left for me will be less adventure and more reflection of those I
experienced.
Tomorrow marks the beginning of my only adventure that qualifies as
'unworldly'. It arrived with a bang......
