[meteorite-list] Meteorites - Oriented vs. Orientated: What’s the Difference?

Hi,

my rusty Latin would say: "oriented" stems from the Latin deponent "oriri" and its participle "oriens, orientis";
and "orientated" was originally derived from the French "orienter" (18th cent.) (which would be in Latin "circumspicere" = to look around).
Therefore, I guess, you have in English both forms for that meaning:
"to orient oneself" --> oriented
"to orientate oneself" --> orientated

Ex oriente lux,

Martin,
a ghost from the past ;-)

I've never thought that "orientated" was a real word--I always just figured it was what ignorant people say who didn't get very far in school...

(my apology to any and all who like to use it!)

Pete
