[meteorite-list] [IMCA List] Creston new fall prices

I was just accused of making a big deal out of nothing.

My response is that the BLM is very aware of what is happening with
meteorites found on public land. We had a BLM agent approach us in Pahrump,
Nevada and ask us what we were doing. He was asking leading questions
like," how much are these meteorites worth?", "what price do get for these
things?" and "how much have you collected?" Fortunately, our team did not
fall for the trap. Everybody answered, "they have no commercial value
whatsoever and we do not intend to sell any of our finds."

I was wondering why gold mining operations call meteorites "curious metal
rocks." It is because most of these operations have claims on public land.
They are not interesting in jeopardizing their operations by selling
meteorites or artifacts. They are discarded or buried as quickly as
possible. A single artifact find can shut down a construction site
indefinitely until archeologists can map out the area. In the meantime,
they will not even utter the words "artifact" or "meteorite." State owned
land and parks followed the federal laws and made them even stricter.

Happy Hunting,

Adam
