It is cool. This militia member, legal expert, self-proclaimed judge and
executioner has cost a lot decent meteorite people a great deal in the way
of legal fees and grief, not to mention fear for their lives.

>>>
>>> 'Meteorite man,' wife arrested
>>>
>>> *Steve Curry, the Montrose man convicted in 2012 of theft relating to
>>> the
>>> sale of a purported meteorite, will begin serving a yearlong jail
>>> sentence,
>>> after deputies arrested him at his home Tuesday.*
>>>
>>> *Also arrested at the Dave Wood Road residence was Curry’s wife, Sandra
>>> Tyler, who allegedly hit a deputy, Montrose County Sheriff Rick Dunlap
>>> said.*
>>>
>>> *Tyler posted bail before her initial court appearance and is to return
>>> to
>>> court Dec. 7. A call made to her listed phone number rang unanswered
>>> Thursday.*
>>>
>>> *Dunlap’s office was prompted to act on Curry’s outstanding failure to
>>> appear warrant from Mesa County because of a letter Curry allegedly sent
>>> to
>>> the Montrose County Treasurer’s office, the sheriff said.*
>>>
>>> *“The county treasurer received a letter from Mr. Curry that we
>>> considered
>>> threatening. We decided that we had to take measure to remedy the
>>> problem,”
>>> Dunlap said.*
>>>
>>> *The MCSO executed a plan in order to take Curry into custody safely,
>>> Dunlap said, declining to elaborate. *
>>>
>>> *Curry was contacted outside of his home and arrested without incident
>>> on
>>> the Mesa County warrant for failure to appear, and, per Dunlap, on a
>>> Montrose County warrant for allegedly violating a protection order that
>>> barred him from contacting certain county employees.*
>>>
>>> *Tyler arrived home and “tried to insert herself into the middle of the
>>> arrest,” Dunlap alleged.*
>>>
>>> *Sgt. Mathew Taramarcaz saw Tyler get out of a car; he told her to walk
>>> toward him and away from the Special Response Team that was arresting
>>> Curry, according to Tyler’s arrest affidavit.*
>>>
>>> *“That’s my husband and I am going to him,” Tyler said, per the
>>> affidavit.
>>> She then “walked at a fast pace toward the team,” Taramarcaz alleged in
>>> the
>>> document. He told her to stop and she allegedly said she wouldn’t, while
>>> also trying to walk around Lt. Ben Halsey.*
>>>
>>> *Taramarcaz attempted to grab Tyler at about the same time that Halsey
>>> also
>>> tried to take hold of her. Tyler jerked way from Halsey, striking
>>> Taramarcaz’s forearm with her left hand, causing pain, the affidavit
>>> alleges.*
>>>
>>> *She allegedly continued attempting to pull away from the officers, who
>>> reported they made several attempts to calm her.*
>>>
>>> *The affidavit alleges she continued to resist and, when told she was
>>> under
>>> arrest, “stated something to the effect of, ‘I did not hit you that
>>> hard.’”*
>>>
>>> *Tyler then allegedly refused to get into a patrol truck, until Sgt.
>>> Keith
>>> Sanders began escorting her to it.*
>>>
>>> *She was arrested on suspicion of second-degree assault, interference,
>>> resisting arrest and accessory to a crime. Dunlap said Tyler knew that
>>> Curry was wanted and had tried to prevent his arrest.*
>>>
>>> *Formal charges have not been filed and again, Tyler is free on bond.*
>>>
>>> *Dunlap did not specify what the Curry’s alleged threat to the treasurer
>>> had been. The remarks that were construed as threatening referred to a
>>> foreclosure, Dunlap said.*
>>>
>>> *Curry, known in town as the “Meteorite Man,” previously told the Daily
>>> Press he had discovered terrestrial meteorites. *
>>>
>>> *In 2011, he sold as a meteorite a piece of iron to a Grand Junction
>>> business and was subsequently convicted of misdemeanor theft and fraud;
>>> he
>>> vowed to appeal and maintained his innocence. In a 2013 document, he
>>> called
>>> his sentencing in Mesa County “illegal by all constitutional measures,
>>> procedures, standards and statutes.”*
>>>
>>> *Curry in 2013 also tried to generate interest in establishing a “common
>>> law” grand jury in Montrose County.*
>>>
>>> *Common law juries have no power; legal experts say they don’t exist
>>> today,
>>> but Curry disagreed. *
>>>
>>> *Grand juries in Colorado are subject to statute.*
>>>
>>> *Curry failed to appear for sentencing, per Dunlap’s information.*
>>>
>>> *He is to serve a year in jail in Mesa County on the case there, Dunlap
>>> said.*
>>>
>>> *The Grand Junction Police Department could not be reached for comment
>>> late
>>> Thursday afternoon.*
>>>
>>> *Authorities have known Curry’s whereabouts for some time since the
>>> failure
>>> to appear warrant was issued; Dunlap said they acted with caution to
>>> ensure
>>> the safety of all involved.*
>>>
>>> *“We tried to prevent a confrontation at the house, because of previous
>>> correspondence from him, plus the fact that we knew there was a least
>>> one
>>> firearm in the house,” Dunlap said.*
>>>
>>> *“We wanted to do it at the time when it was less likely that anyone,
>>> including him, would be hurt. … Nobody got hurt, and that’s what we were
>>> after all along.”*
