One of the freshest and most unusual meteorite falls is now available
- Katol.  This fall is currently unclassified and is undergoing
analysis for future classification.  It is a strange meteorite that
defies easy identification.  The early unofficial consensus is that
Katol is an ungrouped achondrite or possibly a new type of meteorite
(Katolite????).  Whatever the case, the pieces I have were collected
right after the fall and before the rains.  These specimens are not
oxidized.  A fresh greyish-green matrix with plentiful metal flecks
and a granular texture that is devoid of chondrules.
