When testing for nickel using 1% dimethylglyoxine and 10% ammonium 
hydroxide, is the dimethyl applied thoroughly first to a clean section of 
the specimen, then the applicator dipped into the ammonia and examined a 
minute or so later?  My instructions have walked away, and it has been some 
time since I last conducted a test.  How long do these chemicals remain 
effective when stored in a dark area, in dark glass, at room temperature?
