[meteorite-list] Collectible wrongs

Hi List,

Of course, I too, have a 300+lb mystery rock I'll haul to Tucson this year
to see what everyone says....and it begs the question I've been pondering
for years:

Will outside exfoliating fragments of a terrestrializing meteorite test
differently from the interior? It sure seems so....and if so, what
conclusions can we draw from only analyzing the exterior? I've had a
thin-section made of one of the outside chips for reference, but wonder what
the inside has to offer.

As a learned, experienced and extensive collector of meteorites, I still
have my wonders about my particular mystery...hence my question in this
thread.

(Dr. Ted, any advice?)

Richard Montgomery
