ROCKET LAUNCH: Last night, sky watchers in southern California and
Nevada witnessed a bright light cutting across the evening sky. It was a
Delta II rocket from the Vandenberg Air Force Base carrying Italy's
COSMO SkyMed-4 satellite to Earth orbit. The SkyMed-4 is equipped with a
radar that can image any part of Earth's surface--a capability that will
come in handy both for military surveillance and scientific research.

Just to try to close the book on this, here's my candidate for the
source of the November 8th contrail:

PHX>

Boeing 757-200 from Honolulu to Phoenix flew right over Catalina Island
at 37,000 feet at the time in question.
