When I see the BLM or FS, I hide my detector in my big square burlap backpack and say I'm from down south and I'm just passing through on my way to a job in Twin Falls, Idaho and they leave me alone and move on looking for meteorite and coin hunters (aka - those dastardly rogues)...  ;-)

Dennis, I never said that I hunted public land.  In fact I hunt private land.  Look around and see what is going on.  On Padri Island you can't pick up a coin with out going to jail.  In some Western states you can't pick up a piece of broken pottery, with out going to jail.  First they tax you 1 cent, then 10 cents, then $10.  Yeah, just let them get the foot in the door.  I was an Army paratrooper always ready to defend our country and keep it free!   That means free for you to collect meteorites on public land!
