Further to the hypothesis that the impact rates in the solar system may be a
function of the solar system's position in the galaxy, Shoemaker referred to this in
one of his last presentations (page 297):

His hypothesis is that "The study of the impact history of earth is in reality a way
to study the history of the motion of the Earth in the Galaxy."
