Dear Listees:

Greetings all. An update about the Greensburg Fundraiser:

A number of very fine new prizes have been added to the effort:

http://www.aerolite.org/events/greensburg-raffle.htm

These include thin sections donated by Fred Olsen and Don Edwards; Gao
and Canyon Diablo meteorites donated by Steve "Chicago" Arnold; a
beautiful slice of Vredefort impactite donated by Fred Olsen; and Steve
"Brenham" Arnold's personal storm-ravaged copy of "Space Rocks and
Buffalo Grass." This book chronicles the history of the Brenham
meteorite and was in Steve's Greensburg house when the tornado hit. The
book survived (with some damage) and has since been autographed by
Robert Peck. His father, the late Ellis Peck, was the author of the
book. A super-cool one-of-a-kind meteorite collectible.

We have so far raised $4,340.78 for the people of Greensburg. Time is
running out, so buy your raffle tickets soon. Details are here:

http://www.aerolite.org/events/greensburg-fundraiser.htm

The prize drawing is scheduled to take place on July 7 at the Haviland
Meteorite Festival.

Maria Haas has designed some lovely photo boards which describe the
prizes, and which will be on display at the festival. We'll try to get
photos of those up on the website, so you can see them.

In related news: thanks to those who posted and commented upon the
"Kansas City Star" article about the fundraiser, which can be read
here:

http://www.kansascity.com/105/story/158869.html

The journalist was very enthusiastic about our project and conducted a
thorough interview with me. Unfortunately her comment "raffle organizer
Geoff Notkin" makes it sound like this is my project. I made it clear
to her that I was only one of six people working hard on this
fundraiser, the others being Maria Haas, Mark Bostick, Anne Black,
Sonny Clary and Steve Arnold. I'm also disappointed that Mark was not
featured in the article, as he was also interviewed, but I guess
there's only so much space available for meteorite stories. Anyway, as
meteorite articles go, it was certainly one of the better ones I've
read. Thanks to Ms. Gutierrez and the "Kansas City Star" for giving our
fundraiser some coverage.

Regards,

Geoff N.
