Hello fellow list members,

The 54th annual Wichita Gem and Mineral Society show, themed "Meteorites & 
Dazzling Treasures" is moving right along.

Yesterday, Education Day, was field trip day for many of the local schools.  
1500-1600 kids roamed the show grounds to the delight....and perhaps at 
times annoyance to everyone else.  Really they seemed quite well behaved 
every time and most said "thank you" and the like when appropriate.

John Schooler and his wife is here (for like the 25th time) with a very nice 
assortment of meteorites.  John also has a nice meteorite display showing 
all the basic meteorites types, along with the Russian meteor-wrong Putoran 
and nice description sheets.

The show has a lot more out of towns then usual, likely due to meteorites, 
and I even noticed at least one list member from the Northwest US.

Today, at 1 p.m., Greg Nowacek of Wichita State University and director of 
the Lake Afton Observatory, will discuss types of meteorites and show 
samples. Nowacek recently took over WSU's meteorites, as Professor David 
Alexander has left us to Iowa.  The local university (were many of the local 
Kansas Meteorite Society once, and in most cases, many years ago attended) 
has on display about a dozen meteorites.  Several Kansas, a Marlow somewhat 
chunk like specimen that looks exactly like one I have...perhaps sister 
pieces, and a few various meteorites showing different types.

The Kansas Meteorite Society will make a presentation at 3 p.m., which we 
have done a few times now so it is getting to be a worn in hat.

The McPherson (Kansas) Museum and Arts Foundation has a very nice meteorite 
collection on display, but to be honest I haven't had a chance to look it 
over. The director seems to be a very likable guy and we are looking at 
loaning a few meteorites to them for their museum.  I think they are doing 
something today as well.

Tomorrow Steve "Brenham" Arnold will be here where he will present a 
program.  Steve is showing one of his meteorite hunting programs and has the 
meteorite found on display (along with a 22 lb. cut specimen supplied by the 
Kansas Meteorite Society).

Could type more but no time....have to hurry and get in my renaissance 
costume.  Other Kansas Meteorite Society members are able to man the booth 
so I can make my way to the Faire for a few hours.
