Mystery Space Junk, Identified!

Apr 9, 2007 7:08 am

It's the kind of follow-up you always want to hear about, but rarely do. You
know; "Whatever happened to those drivers in a high-speed chase?," --or-- "That
mystery chunk that fell from the sky, where did it come from?"

Let's tackle the mystery chunk that crashed into the couple's bedroom in
Ilinois: had to be a meteorite, right? A nearby geology professor even said so.
(Well not so fast, Heavy Metal-breath.) That same specialist now says... "Just a
minute."
No, now he thinks that spam-sized metal thingy shot in from a grinding machine
at a recycling plant, a couple blocks away.

I don't know which worries me more: that an expert analyst can't tell the
difference between stainless steel and -- you know, Jupiter -- or that folks
live 3- football fields from an artillary launcher, apparently pointed at them.

That's no good: unless it stopped the driver in a chase. (I wonder whatever
happens to those guys anyway.)
