As to determining particle sizes:

I have a recollection of a pilot study to calculate
the average mass of meteoroids from cometary meteor
showers. It essentially measured apparent magnitude,
radar derived altitude measurements, and atmospheric
clarity via a laser-- to derive a total light output.
That value along with velocity(?) was crunched to work
backwards into get the total mass, (assuming the
entire mass was ablated). X joules of light is
produced when X milligrams of mass is excited to
plasma.

I can't begin to Google all that tonight. Does anyone
else have a recollection or recall of that study?

BTW I never got an answer on the meteorite found
amongst the pebbles from a penguin nest? Was that
ever established or was it just a rumor? Or a "Yah
Dude, Cool"pipe dream?

G'Nite for now-- Overcast and drizzle in east
Tennessee; Leonoids are a bust.
