No problem, brother. So it IS your paisano's rock...You really are on a
mission! Speaking of which, I know of just the guy who best could lend a hand - a
modest fellow who does have friendly connections in all the right high
places. At least that is what I gather as I have never met him... but his work on
meteorite density was a very good initiative deserving fine accolades. He must
lead one of the most stimulating and interesting lives. Read the book "Turn
Left at Orion: A Hundred Small Objects to See in a Telescope and How to Find
Them"...ISBN# 0521482119 its a good read.

If this worked out, I am sure your believer with the big holy rock could get
some input on "incontrovertible proof" from a wonderful mentor, like he could
from no other accomplished meteoritical scientist. Brother Guy is a member of
the Council of the Meteoritical Society and has specialized in achondrites
from the Moon and Vesta (and no doubt by natural extension Mars). Good luck
making a case to pique Dr. Guy Consolmagno, S.J.'s interest. You don't get more
official that him - he is the one reporting back to the Meteoritical Society
on how to get the International Astronomical Union (IAU) to accept the
nomenclature for meteorites. Thus far, the IAU, www.iau.org, the governing body of
astronomical nomenclature has not formally extended this recognition to the
MetSoc or their nomenclature committee with respect to the recognition of
meteorite names. Whether this is necessary is another question, but you get the drift.

Between David's great www.meteoritestudies.com great website and Brother
Guy's great insight, there there's got to be a way to help your true believing
acquaintance regarding his discussion with God. Hopefully backs won't be turned
on him in his time of need considering a church also has a stake if I
understood you properly. Everyone has their own unique understanding of the
universe...

Ya - I know, but I need incontrovertible proof that it is not a meteorite.
Further, I
need incontrovertible proof of what it IS, so labs are my only route.

 Thanks,
