Hello Everyone,

Haviland's meteorite festival is in full gear now. It has been a pleasure
working with the city on this event and I can now provide....almost full
details on the festival. Things keep getting added daily so it will be
interesting to see how things go.

First and foremost, Steve Arnold and family will be in the town with the
1430 lb. Brenham he discovered last fall. The festival is to honor the
return of the meteorite and all events were more or less planned around it.
(Congrats. again Steve).

7 am to 10 am: Helicopter Rides (must be booked in advance). Sounds like a
great chance for me to get a strewn field photograph.....

8 am to 10 am: Disc Golf. Not sure if this is a tournament or if there is
prizes or the like. My oldest brother John plays disc golf so adding this
event to the festival....has him coming out.

10:30 am: Parade, Downtown Haviland.

11 am to 5 pm: Meteorite Exhibits.

These include:

Dr. Don Stimpson, Ph. D.

Kansas Meteorite Society, Mark Bostick

Steve Arnold (1430 lb.) Pallasite Meteorite Display.

Balloon Launch and Food Vendors: 1 pm to 5 pm

Other events, many aimed at children, include: Banana Bike Races, Face
Painting, Metal Detector Field, Clown Shows, Children's Science Art Corner,
Meteor Story Time, Moonwalk, Big Slide, Quilt Display and Demonstration,
Portrait Drawling, Speakers, Live Entertainment and Meteorite Dig.

Later evening events include: Historical Tour 6 pm to 8 pm, Picnic in the
Haviland City Park, Fireworks, Stargazing and the International Space
Station Passover.

More things will likely be added to fun filled, meteorite packed, day of
activities.

Should anyone want to fly in, you would book your tickets for Wichita,
Kansas. Jerry Calvert, me and other Kansas Meteorite Society members will
be leaving here early for the festival, however I image one of us could give
someone a ride to and from Wichita, saving you renting a car, if desired.

Special thanks to Jeff D. Christenson, the mayor of Haviland for noting the
importance of the 1430 lb. Brenham discovery and arranging for the city to
pay for expenses to bring the meteorite back and to organize this event.

Hope to see you there,
Mark Bostick
