Dear Sonny and List:

Thanks for the thoughtful offer, and for reminding us about this. Our 
"thank you" project for Joel got overshadowed there a little bit, due 
to the Brenham news.

Now that "Meteorite" magazine has ceased publication due to Joel's poor 
health, a number of us have gotten together to discuss what to do, and 
here's what we've come up with:

In thanks for, and recognition of eleven years' hard work bringing us 
such a great magazine, we are collecting funds which will be used to 
purchase a special meteorite gift for Joel. We have just the perfect 
thing in mind.

Here's what you can do:

1)  Write to me off-List and state that you'd like any remaining 
balance on your "Meteorite" subscription put towards Joel's gift fund. 
We will take care of the rest. (A number of you good people have 
already done this -- thanks!). PLEASE! Include the full mailing address 
of your subscription.

-- OR --

2)  Write to me off-List and state that you'd like any remaining funds 
on your "Meteorite" subscription to remain with the Schiff family.

3)  Send a cash gift via PayPal or check to Maria Haas who has very 
kindly offered to collect and tabulate them. Maria's email and PayPay 
account is:  dragonsoup at msn.com. As well as regular PayPal, she can 
accept credit cards, debit cards and bank account payments through 
PayPal. Those who are uncomfortable with, or unable to use PayPal are 
welcome to contact Maria for her mailing address to send a gift an 
alternative way (cash, check, money order, etc.).

If everyone on the List who has enjoyed "M" donated $10 or more, we'd 
be able to acquire a stellar gift for Joel. I'm sure that such a 
gesture would mean a lot to him, while he is recovering from his 
illness.

I will design a one-of-a-kind certificate, on behalf of the meteorite 
community, to go along with the gift and we'll notify you of the nature 
of the gift (anyone who is particularly interested is welcome to ask me 
off-List now).

Neither Joel nor Christine are on the M-List, but still, I'd like to 
keep discussion off the List as much as possible to reduce the chance 
of spoiling the surprise.


Okay, let's get going with this. Thanks to those of you who have 
already offered to help, and I just sent my PayPal gift to Maria.
