FIELD MUSEUM SHOWING BIG ILLINOIS METEORITE

CHICAGO, Ill., April 12 - (INS) - A piece of the only meteorite ever
recorded as having fallen in Illinois now is on display at the Field Museum
of Natural History here.
For years astronomers and geologists have been watching for any report
of a meteorite falling of being discovered imbedded in the soil of the
state. The specimen now on display in the museum is a large fragment of a
meteorite which fell in Tilden, a town 45 miles southeast of St. Louis, Mo.,
on July 12, 1927. The meteorite landed in three masses - one weighing 110
pounds, one 45 pounds and one 9 pounds.

PDF copy of this article, and most I post (and about 1/2 of those on my
website), is available upon e-mail request.

The NPA in the subject line, stands for Newspaper Article. The old list
server allowed us a search feature the current does not, so I guess this is
more for quick reference and shortening the subject line now.
