Finds Fragment Of Blazing Meteor

DRESDEN, Ont., July 13 - An 88 pound fragment of the blazing meteor
that flashed across the western Lake Erie region Tuesday night today was in
possession of Luke Smith of Chatham, who paid Dan Solomon, a farmer who
discovered it, $4.
Solomon found the black charred stone-like projectile imbedded seven
feet in the ground in one of his fields six miles south of here. His wife
Grace said she saw the meteor coming "straight at me" as she stood in the
yard with her children Tuesday night. She ran for cover and a few seconds
later heard the fragment strike.
Another smaller fragment was found on the farm of Bruce Cummings and
taken to Chatham. Other pieces were reported discovered in the area near the
Solomon farm.
The meteor passed over the Detroit metropolitan area, shaking houses
and treating witnesses to one of the greatest displays of night fireworks
since Haley's Comet.

website), is available upon e-mail request.

The NPA in the subject line, stands for Newspaper Article. The old list
server allowed us a search feature the current does not, so I guess this is
more for quick reference and shortening the subject line now.
