I'm wondering whether everyone has jumped to a wrong conclusion at to 
what is the correct answer.

In a vacuum all bodies will be accelerated by gravity at the same rate. 
  However the question was if   ON EARTH! (emphasis added)  2 spheres of 
different weight are dropped.  Since the heavier sphere has a smaller 
surface to volume ratio it will be slowed less by air friction and will 
land first.  The difference in time over 100 meters will be VERY small, 
but it will be there none the less.
