Bat Mitzvah of Maddie Kanarek!

October 13-14, 2023 / 28 Tishrei 5784

  _____

Meet Maddie Kanarek, Bat Mitzvah!

Maddie Kanarek, a lifelong member of the CBI community, is an 8th grader at
Millburn Middle School. Maddie had her baby naming in the sanctuary and
started CBI nursery school camp the summer before turning 2. Following her
graduation from BBRS Hebrew School in the spring, Maddie continues to stay
involved as a madricha, Kadima member and frequent Ashrei leader. This
coming winter, Maddie will be traveling to Israel with the first MetroWest
IsraelNow program for 8th graders. Maddie plays soccer and loves splitting
her summers between Camp Harlam, where she is a proud second-generation
camper, and time at the beach with family.

Maddie has chosen to support the Jewish Relief Agency for her Bat Mitzvah
Project. She will be volunteering and raising money to provide food for
families in need.

Maddie is thrilled to share her simcha with her parents Stacy Thompson &
David Kanarek, her brother Sam, grandparents Faye & Allan Thompson and Ann &
Jack Kanarek, and all her extended family and friends. Maddie is grateful
for all of the guidance and assistance from Cantor Wallach, Rabbi Isenberg
and Rabbi Julie throughout this process and for preparing her for this
special day. Maddie would also like to thank the entire CBI community for
being part of her Jewish education and her journey to adulthood.

CBI Israel Trip August 2024

We are praying that the war will have ended long before our scheduled trip.
By next summer, Israel will need to rebuild its economy. Tourism plays an
important role in its economy. There is no better time than now to register
for next summer's trip. Let's amass an inspiring synagogue delegation and
travel to Israel, to inject much needed funds into the tourism industry, to
show our support to the great citizens of Israel, to volunteer and give of

Winter Coat Drive

Dropoff October 3rd - October 27th in the CBI Lobby

For the first time since the pandemic, the Interfaith Food Pantry of the
Oranges will be hosting a coat distribution for its food pantry clients. Our
goal is to collect 1,400 coats this year. Too many of our neighbors struggle
to meet basic needs, and many people take having a coat for granted, until
they don't have one to shield themselves from the elements. CBI is assisting
with the coat drive to share the warmth with community members in need.

*	Please bring new or gently worn coats suitable for adults and
children.
*	NO winter accessories, please.

Coats to be delivered to the IFPO warehouse in Orange on Sunday, October
29th.

Beyond Bereavement Circle

Thursday, October 19 // 4:30-5:30 pm // CBI

Grief has its own timetable. There is no point at which we stop grieving,
rather, over time our grief evolves.

At CBI we are offering a safe and supportive space in which to share our
memories, our challenges, and the wisdom of our experience. The group will
be facilitated by clergy and is open to both members and non-members.

Our topic: Grief and Household Items: their favorite chair, their side of
the bed, their place at the table, books, mementos, and special photographs.
There are many reminders all around us that both comfort and pain us. Let's
talk.

This Week's Message from

The CBI Alliance for Sustainability

Where despite disparities

We all care to protect this world,

This riddled blue marble, this little true marvel

To muster the verve and the nerve

To see how we can serve

Our planet. You don't need to be a politician

To make it your mission to conserve, to protect,

To preserve that one and only home

That is ours,

To use your unique power

To give next generations the planet they deserve.

CBI Alliance for Sustainability

In response to the increasing challenges facing the environment, it's time
for CBI to do its part to preserve and protect the natural world. We'll be
focusing on environmental sustainability through a Jewish lens, exploring
how essential Jewish teachings can inform our pursuit of a healthy and just
world. We hope to involve all members of the CBI community from preschoolers
to seniors. We'll be evaluating what we can do as a community and as
individuals to integrate a commitment to sustainability into our lives, in
order to be true partners in the ongoing work of Tikkun Olam. We invite you
to be part of it!
