Beyond Bereavement Circle

Thursday, July 27th // 4:00 - 5:30 pm // CBI

We invite those who have passed the first year of mourning to join this
safe, supportive, loving group. We will share our memories, challenges, and
the wisdom of our experience. Facilitated by Rabbi Helaine Ettinger, this
group is open to both members and non-members of CBI. The topic for this
meeting will be "Helpful and Unhelpful Advice We've Received About Grief."

This Week's Tip from.

The CBI Alliance for Sustainability

Summer is here and many are working hard to keep their lawns green and
beautiful.  Did you know that a sprinkler hooked to a 5/8" hose uses 1020
gallons of water/hour? The average pop up station of a lawn watering system
uses approximately 16 gallons of water/minute. (WSSC Water). If you do the
math, the amount of water consumed by our lawns is staggering. According to
Scientific American (David Biello, August 19, 2009), the typical suburban
home is an underestimated source of water pollution.  Runoff from rain and
sprinkler systems contains significant amounts of pesticides, fertilizers,
and other toxic chemicals.

Watch your yard over this summer. Consider where you might plant something
other than grass to increase biodiversity and lessen the amount of water
used. This article from the New York Times has a number of ideas to help you
begin to think differently about your yard, and how you might use your plot
of land to lessen your impact on our environment:

CBI Alliance for Sustainability

In response to the increasing challenges facing the environment, it's time
for CBI to do its part to preserve and protect the natural world. We'll be
focusing on environmental sustainability through a Jewish lens, exploring
how essential Jewish teachings can inform our pursuit of a healthy and just
world. We hope to involve all members of the CBI community from preschoolers
to seniors. We'll be evaluating what we can do as a community and as
individuals to integrate a commitment to sustainability into our lives, in
order to be true partners in the ongoing work of Tikkun Olam. We invite you
to be part of it!
