Mazal Tov to Wendy and Hank Kaplowitz on the Bat Mitzvah of their
granddaughter Miriam last week.

Mazal Tov to Meryl and Michael Skinder on the recent marriage of their
daughter Carly to Alex Lieberman.

Mazal Tov to Paula and David Touger on the engagement of their daughter
Ariel to Joel Feinberg.

Mazal Tov to Michael Cohen, and to Meryl and the whole family, on Michael
being honored this past week by the Essex County Board of County
Commissioners for Michael's outstanding service to Millburn Township and the
community in celebration of Jewish Heritage Month. Michael gave a nice
shoutout to CBI and to Friendship Circle! Also participating in the ceremony
was CBI member Brittany Stern, currently a cantorial student at JTS, who
sang the National Anthem and Hatikvah.

CBI's Pride Shabbat

featuring Peter Savastano, "The Overqualified Jew"

Tomorrow morning, Saturday, June 3 // 9:30 am // at CBI

We are thrilled to introduce Peter Savastano, PhD., a Professor of
Anthropology at Seton Hall University, and a member of the Department of
Social Work, Criminal Justice and Religion, as our Pride Shabbat Speaker. Dr
Savastano is a member of the LGBTQ+ community who recently converted to
Judaism (curious to know why?). One Rabbi at his conversion Bet Din remarked
that he is "overqualified to be Jewish". He teaches courses in Anthropology
and Religious studies, and is excited to share his personal and scholarly
observations and perspectives with the CBI community. 

Dr. Savastano supports Circle of Friends, which provides scholarship money
for transgendered youth in Newark. To contact them, reach out to: Circle of

After 37 amazing years as our preschool teacher (not to mention 28 years as
a BBRS teacher too!), Ilana is retiring! Help us celebrate Ilana Tenenbaum
