The Story of the State of Israel Through Its Music

75th Birthday Edition!

Monday Mornings May 1-May 22 // 9:30 am // Zoom

In this 4-session module, we will be celebrating Israel's 75th birthday as
we focus on the birth of the State of Israel and its first decade. The War
of Independence burst out anew on May 15th 1948, and did not end until
March 1949. During the war, the State was securing its foundations and
welcoming immigrants, many survivors of the Shoah. We will learn about this
first generation of an independent Israel through the music that tells their
story.

Each song presented will be accompanied by a commentary that includes the
story behind the song. We will review song lyrics in translation as we
explore their context and meaning.

We'll be listening mostly to both original and updated versions of these
songs, and we'll gain knowledge of leading vocalists and groups - becoming
familiar with a 'Who's Who' in the history of Israeli song.

The Kabbalah of Music at the CBI Song and Chant Circle

THIS Sunday, May 7 // 5:00 pm // CBI

Join us in the CBI Sanctuary for our inspirational Hebrew song and chant
circle with musical accompaniment, led by Len Hausman.

In Kabbalah there is a practice of using the seven weeks between Passover
and Shavu'ot as a time of personal and spiritual renewal. By singing and
chanting words from our liturgy and the
Zohar favored by the Kabbalists of Safed, we hope to share in this practice.

The intention of our circle is to awaken the divine in our hearts. Song and
chant can soothe the mind and at the very least is simply fun to do! No
prior knowledge of Hebrew or singing ability necessary . . . only a
willingness to join in spiritual community.

Our 12th year!

This Week's Tip from.

The CBI Alliance for Sustainability

"Behold, I have given you every herb yielding seed which is upon the face of
all the earth, and every tree that has seed-yielding fruit-to you it shall
be for food." Genesis 1:29

Patronize your local farmers' markets where the food you purchase is grown
locally and not shipped from thousands of miles away. Since local farmers do
not have to concern themselves with longevity and transportation of their
produce, they can plant varieties where taste is the priority. Produce at
farmers' markets is picked when ripe and sold to you the next day, so it is
tastier and fresher. Purchasing from a local farmers' market supports New
Jersey farmers and local employment. It keeps your money in local
communities and helps to ensure that New Jersey remains The Garden State.
The following is a list of local farmers' markets, including their addresses
and days/times they are open:

Millburn - June through October, Fridays 8AM-3PM at the corner of Main and
Essex

Springfield - July 11 to October 31, Mondays 12PM-6PM, 139 Mountain Ave.

South Orange - June 7-Oct. 26, Wednesdays, 2PM-7PM in the Sloan St. parking
lot

Maplewood - June 5 through November 20, Mondays, 2PM-7PM, 1866 Springfield
Ave. at Yale Corner

Summit - April 23-November 19, Sundays 8AM-1PM, 22 Deforest Ave.

Chatham - June 17- Nov. 18, Saturdays 8AM-1PM, Railroad Plaza

Madison - beginning May 25, Thursdays 1-6PM. Dodge Field, 49 Central Ave.

Union - June 1-Oct. 26, Thursdays 1-7PM, 1300 Winslow Ave.

gave birth to a child or grandchild, is ill, has been hospitalized or
suffered the loss of a loved one? The easiest way to let the clergy and
