Dear Chevre:
Congregation B'nai Israel is truly a caring community. Not a day goes by
where there is not an act of tikkun olam - repairing the world - taking
place. We see this in our congregation's outreach to those in need in
McRoberts, KY.the housing of displaced families through our partnership with
the Interfaith Hospitality Network (IHN).our annual MLK Mitzvah Day each
January.the varied and numerous B'nai Mitzvah projects undertaken by our
children.the tzedakah raised by our preschoolers each Friday for a dedicated
cause.
We are a caring community at home, too; taking care of those in our
congregation in need and extending hospitality - hachnaset orchim - to
friends, neighbors and guests. We want to take this opportunity to highlight
three specific ways we help one another:
SHABBAT HOSTING FOR BAR/BAT MITZVAH FAMILIES
Several times a year, Bar and Bat Mitzvah families have out-of-town guests
attending the simcha who need to stay within walking distance of the
synagogue. The Religious Affairs Committee maintains a list of congregants
who live within one mile of the synagogue who are willing to host guests for
Friday night. Meals are generally provided by the Bar/Bat Mitzvah families.
Being on the host list is not a firm commitment, just a willingness to
consider hosting when the need arises. You do NOT need to be shomer Shabbos,
keep kosher, nor be attending the Bar Mitzvah. (Please see attached FAQs.)

RIDE MATCHMAKER
We are pleased to announce the creation of a new service for CBI members who
want to come to an event or service at CBI but are unable to drive
themselves. We hope to "match" a congregant in need of transportation to and
from the synagogue with a congregant able to drive.a "win-win" and friendly
service. If you are willing to drive someone who lives near you, please let
us know. Our "matchmaker" will compile a list and arrange for rides when
possible.

CARING COMMITTEE
One of CBI's longstanding groups which supports and embraces one another at
times of illness, injury, loss, isolation and other life-challenging
situations. This wonderful group arranges for meals to be brought to
congregants in need, either in good times or bad. Friendly visits are
scheduled for those who are home-bound and need some company or a helping
hand. Volunteers are always welcome who can cook meals in their own kosher
kitchen, purchase kosher meals or participate in home visits.
Contact: Laurie Schwartz // Caring Committee Coordinator at
lscaregiver48 at gmail.com or <tel:862-763-7705> 862-763-7705 .
All of these acts of kindness make us that much stronger as a community.with
ties that bind. We hope that you are inspired to find a way to help us
become even closer as a community.
