CBI Chanting Circle

This Sunday, November 9th at 5:00 p.m.

Join us in the Chapel as we mark Kristallnacht, which occurred on this day
76 years ago. Our chants and songs will reflect themes of hope and
remembrance, with words from our sacred scriptures and liturgy. Be prepared
to quiet your mind, and sing your heart open. No prior knowledge of Hebrew
or singing ability necessary, only a wish to join in spiritual community.

Friday, November 21 at 6:45 p.m.

 

Welcome Shabbat with this earlier, partially lay-led service,

featuring communal singing as much as possible.

(Shir Shabbat is Hebrew for Shabbat Song!)

 

Shir Shabbat will be a complete Friday night service.

.with tunes synced with prayers learned in Blanche Bayar Religious School
and Golda Och Academy.  We hope that families -- youth and adults of all
ages -- will take an active part in helping lead.

Come to this first service to experience it yourself...and help us develop
Shir Shabbat into what you want it to be!

The Jewish community is at a crossroads: 48% of American Jews are
unaffiliated.

Over 80% intermarry and only 8% of the children of intermarried couples
identify as Jews.

Fewer and fewer Jews have any interest in Jewish tradition or the Jewish
community.

There must be another way.

JTS Chancellor Arnold Eisen will propose a new vision for building a rich,
inspiring, and vibrant Jewish future in America.

Set in the 1960's Poland. Anna is an 18-year-old orphan who was raised in
that convent and is preparing to take her vows when her Mother Superior
insists that first she meet her one known relative. That is an aunt, Wanda a
former prosecutor with a high Communist Party rank whose dissolute life of
smoking, drinking and bedding men stands in stark contrast to the ascetic
existence of her sheltered niece. But Anna has more to be shocked about when
Wanda tells her that her real name is Ida (pronounced Eeda), that she is
Jewish and that her parents were killed during World War II.



December 4 - When Comedy went to School

Entertaining portrait of a great generation of Jewish American comedians;
Jerry Lewis, Sid Caesar, Jackie Mason, Mort Sahl and many others tell their
stories.

 

December 18 - Chanukah Program with Cantor Wallach

Join us as Cantor Lorna Wallach presents a song filled Chanukah program and
discusses the liturgy.
