Simchat Torah at CBI

Come Rejoice in the Torah!

Simchat Torah marks the completion of the annual cycle of weekly Torah
readings. Each week in synagogue, we read a few chapters from the Torah,
starting with Genesis and continuing all the way to Deuteronomy. On Simchat
Torah we read the last Torah portion and then immediately read the first
chapter of Genesis, reminding us that the Torah is a circle and never ends.
This completion is a time of great celebration.with lots of singing and
dancing. Children are encouraged to bring their own toy or stuffed Torahs to
the Children's Service.

Arnold M. Eisen

Chancellor, The Jewish Theological Seminary

Do American Jews Have a Future?

Tuesday, November 18, 2014 at 7:30 p.m.

The Jewish community is at a crossroads: 48% of American Jews are
unaffiliated.

Over 80% intermarry and only 8% of the children of intermarried couples
identify as Jews.

Fewer and fewer Jews have any interest in Jewish tradition or the Jewish
community.

There must be another way.

JTS Chancellor Arnold Eisen will propose a new vision for building a rich,
inspiring, and vibrant Jewish future in America.

This event is free and open to the public.
